Steven Blier and Michael Barrett, pianists;
Students from The Juilliard School NYFOS continues its annual collaboration with The Juilliard School’s Ellen and James S. Marcus Institute for Vocal Arts, this year touring the world of operetta—witty, charming music from England, France, Spain, Austria, and America by composers ranging from Emmerich Kálmán and Federico Moreno Torroba to Arthur Sullivan and Stephen Sondheim.
From Artistic Director Steven Blier:
"The program will include the best numbers from American and European light opera—glorious tunes, devilish comedy, and deep sentiment. Operetta can have the daffy, absurd charm of Alice in Wonderland; it can also do a stealth attack on your emotions. This program is designed to appeal to dyed-in-the-wool maven, as well as the younger generation who have grown up without much contact with this repertoire. Ladies and gentlemen: introducing operetta for the hipster."
